Frequently asked questions

Welcome to BEATUS Wellness- & Spa-Hotel.

We know that traveling to Switzerland can come with a few surprises. Some things work a little differently here than they do in other countries. To help you feel completely at home, we've answered some of the questions our international guests often ask.

1. Do I really have to be naked in the sauna?

Yes, our saunas are swimsuit-free. In Switzerland, traditional saunas are enjoyed without swimwear, and men and women generally share the same facilities. At BEATUS, swimsuits are not permitted in our sauna areas. This is a standard part of Swiss wellness culture. Of course, using the sauna is entirely optional. You can enjoy our indoor and outdoor swimming pools while wearing your swimsuit.

2. Can I get free tap water at the restaurant?

No. At BEATUS, all water served in our restaurants is charged, including tap water. We understand that complimentary tap water and free refills are common in American restaurants. In Switzerland, restaurant water service often works differently. At BEATUS, tap water, bottled still water, and sparkling water are charged according to our beverage menu.

3. Is everything included in my room rate?

Not quite! Your room rate includes a selection of services depending on the package you booked. Eligible packages include dining experiences, access to our wellness facilities, and selected recreational activities. Massages, beauty treatments, certain activities, additional restaurant orders, and beverages may cost extra. Please review your booking confirmation for the exact services included in your stay.

4. What exactly is Gourmet Half-Board? Is it all-inclusive?

Gourmet Half-Board is our dining package, which includes:

  • A generous breakfast buffet

  • A light lunch with soups and salads

  • An afternoon selection of Swiss cakes

  • Dinner with a choice of dishes from our designated menu

It is not an all-inclusive, unlimited food-and-drink package. Beverages, including water served in our restaurants, and additional food orders are charged separately. Your booking confirmation will indicate whether Gourmet Half-Board is included in your reservation.

5. What if I don't want to eat dinner? Can I get money back?

A specific dinner reduction may apply under the conditions of your booked package. If you plan to skip dinner, please contact our Reservations Team in advance so we can confirm whether a reduction is available. Other included meals are part of your overall package and do not automatically become credits or refunds if you choose not to use them.

6. I don't use saunas or swimming pools. Can I pay a lower room rate?

Our wellness facilities are part of the experience included in eligible room packages. Your room rate is based on the overall package, not on how many amenities you personally use. If you decide not to visit the sauna, pool, or fitness facilities, this does not normally result in a reduced room rate or refund.

7. Are massages and spa treatments included?

Access to designated wellness facilities is included in eligible room packages. Massages, facials, beauty treatments, and private wellness experiences are additional services and are charged separately. We recommend booking treatments in advance.

8. Will my room have air conditioning?

Not all rooms at BEATUS have conventional air conditioning. Some rooms have air conditioning, others feature environmentally friendly cooling systems, and some rooms do not have air conditioning. Please check the amenities of your selected room category carefully. If air conditioning is especially important to you, our Reservations Team will be happy to help you choose a suitable room before booking.

9. Why are there two mattresses in my double bed?

In Switzerland, it is common for double beds to have two individual mattresses placed next to each other. This allows each guest to enjoy their preferred sleeping comfort. If you have specific bed preferences, please contact us before arrival so we can explain the options available in your room category.

10. Can we have dinner at 6 p.m.?

Our regular Gourmet Half-Board dinner service begins at 7 p.m. We understand that many American guests prefer an earlier dinner. If you would like to dine earlier, please contact our team in advance so we can discuss the available options.

11. Can I eat at any hotel restaurant as part of my package?

Your Gourmet Half-Board package includes dinner in the designated dining area, with a choice of dishes from the included menu. Dining at other restaurants or choosing additional menu items may result in extra charges. Our team will be happy to explain the options before you make your restaurant reservation.

12. Is there a coffee maker in every room?

Coffee-making facilities vary by room category. For certain rooms, an optional Nespresso coffee trolley with a milk frother is available for CHF 20 per day. Please check your room amenities or contact Reservations if you would like coffee-making facilities in your room.

13. Do I have to leave a 20% tip?

No. Tipping works differently in Switzerland. Restaurant service is already included in our menu prices. Tipping is entirely optional. If you are especially pleased with the service, a small additional tip is appreciated, but it is never required. You do not need to add the customary American 18–20% gratuity.

14. Can I check in early after my flight from the United States?

Your room is available from 4 p.m. on your arrival day. If you arrive earlier, you are welcome to use our designated wellness facilities while your room is being prepared, subject to the applicable access conditions. Early access to your room cannot be guaranteed unless separately confirmed.

15. What happens if I leave earlier than planned?

Your reservation is subject to the cancellation and early-departure conditions of your booked rate. Leaving before your scheduled departure date does not automatically entitle you to a refund for unused nights. Please contact Reservations if your travel plans change.

16. Is parking free?

On-site parking is available. Complimentary parking may be included with eligible reservations made directly with BEATUS. Parking conditions can differ depending on your booked rate. Please refer to your booking confirmation or ask our Reservations Team about applicable charges.

17. Do I need to bring a power adapter?

Yes. Switzerland uses Type J electrical outlets, which are different from those in the United States. Swiss electricity operates at 230 volts. Many modern phone and laptop chargers work with both U.S. and Swiss voltage, but you will still need a compatible plug adapter. Please check your device's voltage rating before use.

18. Is Switzerland really as expensive as people say?

Switzerland has a different price structure from the United States, particularly for dining and hospitality services. At BEATUS, many dining, wellness, and recreational experiences may already be included in your room package. We recommend reviewing your package inclusions and the prices of optional services before your stay so you know exactly what to expect.

19. Can I receive a refund for included services I don't use?

Our room packages combine accommodation with selected meals, wellness facilities, and other benefits. These services are part of your overall package rather than individually priced items. Choosing not to use a service does not normally entitle you to a refund or substitute credit. Any specific reductions stated in your booking terms will, of course, be honored. If an included service is unavailable or does not match what was promised in your reservation, please let our team know so we can assist you.

20. What if I'm not familiar with Swiss customs?

That's absolutely fine! Part of traveling is discovering how things work in another country, and we're always happy to explain our traditions. Whether you have questions about sauna etiquette, dining, your room, or what is included in your package, just ask us.

Our goal is simple: No surprises, just a wonderful Swiss wellness experience.

We look forward to welcoming you to BEATUS!
