Susanne Fahrni

"Love what you do" is Susanne’s motto. Let her take you on magical excursions to discover the cultural treasures of the region, from Merligen into the idyllic Emmental (Emmen valley) and fascinating Gürbetal (Gürbe valley). Discover together the most beautiful panorama trails far from civilisation and lesser known sites which will stay in your memory for years to come. As Susanne grew up in and has deep connections with the region, the athletic and ambitious Guide delights in an incredible store of knowledge. She knows many of the traditional artisans in the region personally and can organise unique visits and tours of their workshops. A further highlight with Susanne are the winter hikes through snow-covered woods, with a backpack full of tales, surprises and treats to enjoy at a tree stump or bench. Flexible, attentive and speaking German, French, Spanish and English, Susanne will try to make your “wishes” come true.

Volker Dietl

"I always love being able to take you out into nature". Whether a mountain hike to the Selibüel lookout at the Gurnigel pass, trekking in snowshoes through the silence of the Alpine panorama or taking the hotel’s own houseboat out on the turquoise waters of Lake Thun to greet the sunrise, you can be sure of exciting and diverse experiences together with Volker. He can show you the Bernese Oberland from the Guide’s perspective. As a passionate mountain climber, he can take you past enchanted clearings, over the high meadows to places that reward you with breath-taking views. Volker enjoys passing on his trove of experience, introducing you to the wonders of the area and is looking forward to sharing his passion with you: nature.

  • Our tip for an eventful spring

Hiking on the Lombachalp, the second largest moor in Switzerland and the source of the Emme. The hike starts out flat, then climbs to the Winterösch scenic lookout. From here you get an unforgettable view of the Bernese Alps and the famous trio of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

  • Our tip for an exciting summer

A visit to the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge – a UNESCO World Heritage site. A well maintained and secured trail takes you past mighty waterfalls, romantic grottoes and bizarre rock formations. The irrepressible energy of the glacial melt water can be seen and felt everywhere. The hike from the gorge runs parallels to the road, then follows a nearly level section along the Rychenbach. A picturesque grill site with wood provided invites you to stay a while. A little later you come to the Schwarzwaldalp. You can visit the historic water-driven sawmill here.

  • Our tip for a colorful autumn

From Palmendorf Merligen, the pilgrim trail leads to Interlaken. The hiking path passes through colourful mixed woods, conservation areas, past the spiritual site of the St Beatus caves to the cosy town of Sundlauenen on Lake Thun. Along the way, the vibrant foliage often parts for a view of Lake Thun. Along the shore, you finally pass the Weissenau ruins to arrive at the Interlaken West train station.

  • Our tip for a magical winter

Hiking in the Justis valley. After strapping on your Hotel snowshoes, tramp up a mild climb from the Grönhütte to Mt Püfel. Those who want to discover an untouched landscape can take the Chüematte Trail at Niederhorn. As the sun sets, the atmosphere on the Christmas Trail (Weihnachtsweg) in Aeschi and Aeschiried is simply magical.
