The Beatus history.

Hospitality has already been offered for nearly four hundred years on the spot where the Beatus stands today:

1628
The inn standing where the Beatus is today in Merligen was first named the "Bären".

1779
The inn was renamed as "Löwen" and the German poet, Johann Wolfgang Goethe, visited Merligen on his way to Italy. 

1857
The "Löwen" inn became a boarding house. 

1873
The first road connection was built from Thun and Interlaken to Merligen.

1876
The "Löwen" boarding house built the mooring point for steam boats.

1883
The "Löwen" became the "Beatus".

1898

The Beatus was not affected by the big fire in the Merligen village. Carl Seegers bought the establishment and renovated it. Ferdinand Hodler and Curt Goetz belonged to the well-known Beatus guests of the time.

1958
Hugo Frey-Forster (Kleider Frey) purchased Hotel Beatus.

1961
Reconstruction as a five-star hotel in today's style

1986
Hotel Beatus was sold to Bernese businessmen.

1993
Hotel Beatus was sold to its current owners, Heiner Lutz and Laurenz Schmid. All the rooms and eating areas were renovated.

1994
The first saltwater pool in Switzerland was opened with the hotel's open-air experience saltwater spa.

1998
Opening of the "Classic" sauna park.

2001

Opening of Vitalità.

2003

Opening of the "Bamboo" sauna park. (7 saunas in total)

2004

Total renovation of the west wing, including 3 wellness suites

2005 

Renovation of the "Table d'hôtes"

2006

Rasul and Alpienne, two treatment rooms for couples, and three other massage rooms are opened

2008

Renovation of the 1st floor rooms. Extension with French balcony and renovation of the rooms on the road side. Opening of the library.

2009

Renovation of the second floor rooms and re-opening of the "Lake Lounge"

2010

Renovation of the 3rd floor
